About
Ravikesavan R works to serve farmers and to build knowledge of the nutritional value of millets among the public and among children. He also works to expand the area under millet crops in order to narrow the gap between supply and demand.
Millets track record
He has researched millet crops and released 10 high-yielding millet varieties, and has guided postgraduate and doctoral students in millet research. He has led funded research projects and demonstrated a range of millet cultivation technologies to farmers to increase their net profit. Through Tamil Nadu innovative initiative projects he established six millet hubs and millet processing centres for value addition, and was instrumental in setting up millet-based farmer producer organisations. He has organised more than 1,000 on-farm demonstrations on millet crops and produced over 100 tonnes of seed of various millet crops through farmer-participatory seed production.
