Carla Lancelotti is a research professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain, with around twelve years of work on millets. Her research follows the domestication and spread of millets from prehistory to the present day through an ethno-archaeobotanical approach. She joins the World Millet Federation to help show how millets have sustained diets for thousands of years and allowed communities to live in landscapes that would otherwise be considered unproductive.
Millets track record
She recovers plant remains from archaeological sites to reconstruct the history of millet use, and works alongside present-day farmers to understand traditional strategies for coping with climate and environmental change. Her plans within the Federation include continuing this research, training new students and supporting initiatives that showcase the value and long history of millets.
